This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
We love to go away to Hilton Head every year. This is where my wife’s family holds their annual family reunion and we all get to hang out for a week in the summer.
We have such a great time, so I wanted to share 5 things that we do on vacation.
1- Go for bike rides. We love to go on bike rides. My best tip is to get the alley-cat for your younger kids that are too old for the little seat on the back of the bike. Our kids could ride for hours on these, because they pedal when they want to and take a break when they need one.
2- Have awesome meals planned. For our trips, each family is in charge of preparing a different meal. This time, we wanted to go first because we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to plan. We used the Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ to make some great sandwiches. They were really easy to make, so it was a no-brainer. You can Get a $1.00 off coupon now.
So we had soup and sandwiches. I ended up making the Brisket. It was great. Everyone commented on it.
We made our own Southern Style Brisket Sandwiches. Since it was so good and easy to make here is the recipe. Cook the Brisket according to the package. We topped ours with cole slaw, sliced pickles and a little extra sauce from the brisket. We bought bakery toasted onion rolls to compliment the brisket.
TIP: Squeeze a little lime on top of the cole slaw for a little kick that you’ll love!
We fed the kids first and then we enjoyed our dinner and played a board game (we played Hilton Headopoly … the Hilton Head version of Monopoly. My wife isn’t much for Monopoly, but even she liked this one!)
3- Have a special movie night with the Kids.
Jack and Beau, our two oldest, started a tradition a few years back where they pick one night during our vacation and plan a movie night. They would beg us and say: “Remember your vacation is our vacation!” I think I heard this before… oh yeah, they heard their Mom telling me that! We usually try to all watch the movie together and let the kids stay up a little later while we all snuggle up on the couch!
4- Go out with just your spouse.
My wife and I try to do something without the kids (while we have built-in-babysitters). We might go out to eat or even just take a walk on the beach. It doesn’t matter what you are doing, as long as you are spending time together.
5. Go see something new.
We try to go somewhere new each year. This year, we took our drive in Savannah (that isn’t the new part- we go there every year) and we walked around to explore. Instead of going into the normal ‘candy shop’ where we go to get our favorite Pralines, we tried out a new shop and it was even better! Just goes to show that you can find something new around every corner.
What are your best vacation tips? Where do you like to go?
