Becky and I love checking out neighborhoods & homes when we have time. We like to explore new areas and just gather ideas for our house. Along the way, we kind of figured out what it was about certain homes that made them stand out and make us take a second look. It all boils down to curb appeal. Thanks to our sponsor, LP SmartSide, in conjunction with Blog Meets Brand, for today’s post. I have been compensated for my participation. All opinions are my own.
Here are 6 ideas:
1). SPRUCE UP YOUR LANDSCAPING
This one is huge. Your house can be beautiful, but even with the best siding and your favorite front porch, it isn’t going to be “just right” until you have payed attention to the details. Add a few trees in the fall, hang ferns in the spring, edge your yard (this makes a huge difference) and try to keep the yard cut as nicely as you can. If you are going to do a large landscape project one make sure you are choosing the right plants for what you want. Here is our latest project, We chose plants that will help give us privacy and will stay green all year long.
2- CHANGE THE SIDING
We love LP Smartside Trim & Siding, so we used the Design Planner to create a virtual design of the home. They have so many house siding options. (You can find someone to help you with it here)
ps- Have a cup of coffee on LP SmartSide while you use the Design Planner to see what my house may look like with new LP SmartSide siding and trim. Enter to win a $5 gift card to Starbucks here (LP SmartSide is giving away a total of 100 $5 Starbucks gift cards.)

We saw several several virtual exterior makeovers, where we were able to consider the options for color and design while considering the strength, durability, and warranty of LP SmartSide.
You can really play around with the material & color until you find one that you like… and then you can turn it into a reality!
We love the brand because it offers the beauty of natural cedar texture, has deep shadow lines for a premium appearance (Becky loves that look), it has a durability of a treated engineered wood product & it seems to withstand harsh weather elements. (You can see their YouTube channel for more ideas)
3- REPLACE THE DOORS.
This is such an easy switch: replace your front door. If you can’t afford to do that, just paint it and add molding, like in the image below. (ps- they made this molding out of foam!)
4- BUILD A TREE-BENCH:
Becky saw this and immediately sent it to me. I have to agree that it is awesome. Who wouldn’t want to sit under a giant tree in the yard?
5. SPRUCE UP AN OLD MAILBOX.
It is so easy with this stone cast that slides over the wooden post (get details at beneathmyheart).
6). MAKE YOUR PORCH STAND OUT.
This spring, we did a total overhaul of the front porch. We went for new black rocking chairs (a gift from my mother-in-law), we added plants and a splash of red all around the porch. Here was our finished porch:
