It is almost spring break in the Carolinas – you know what that means. Our house will be filled with kids! We like that our house is the hang-out spot (read why here). Today I wanted to share these board games for kids 6-10, because if you knock on our door in the evenings, you’ll probably find one of them on our kitchen table.
It seems like as soon as the kids are home, Jack is ready to pull out some sort of board game. We encourage it, because we’d rather he play a board game with us than a video game alone.
Even Ethan & Allie are getting into board games, but today I want to tell you about the best board games for 6-10 year olds, because that can be a hard age. They are getting away from CandyLand and Chutes&Ladders and onto more complicated games.
Here are our top 10 board games for kids 6-10:
1- CLUE.
This is Becky’s favorite, so we play it… a lot. The kids love it, too. They could play this one every day, too. (I’m not going to weigh in here… I’m outnumbered).
2- Monopoly Here & Now.
We like this version of Monopoly because it is much faster. The tables turn here, because Jack & I love to play monopoly, while Becky tries to find some reason to get out of playing. (She blames it on losing to her brother over and over as a child… hmm…).
3- Checkers.
Good, old fashioned checkers. The boys like to go and play this one by themselves. They will play it for an hour or more.
4- Guess Who.
We all love this game. Ethan & Allie join in on this one, too, but more often than not, Jack & Beau play it by themselves while the rest of us are playing candy land.
5- Battleship.
One of my favorites as a kid & now I’m playing it with my kids.
6- War and UNO.
These card games are fun, quick and great way to teach math. We started playing them with our kids when they are about four, teaching them to add (and they don’t even realize it).
7- Scattergories.
This one is perfect for vacation and to play in a big group of people. (Our family of 6 is kind of always a big group, but add in my brother-in-law’s family of four & my in-laws and we’re up to 12… we vacation with them a few times a year, so we take this game every time).
8- Life.
The kids love to play life. It seems like it would be too old for them, but it isn’t. They could play it all day long.
9- Connect 4.
This game is simple and the older kids usually have to play this one in their rooms, because Allie loves to just put the checkers in, in any random order, and will mess up the game in the process.
10- Rummy Cube.
My brother and sister-in-law taught the boys how to play this game. It is like Gin Rummy, but in a board game. It is Jack’s favorite and he wants to play it with them every time that we go away with them. I hate to admit it but he is really good at it and can beat both Becky and I!
