How to beat the Afternoon Slump
I am partnering with Function Drinks for today’s sponsored post to share some ideas to be the afternoon slump.
Do you ever feel like you have more energy at night than you do in the afternoon? I have energy when I wake up and energy when I go to bed (figures), but it is that afternoon time is when I feel the most tired. It makes me wish I was a kid with someone telling me that I need a nap.
Here are 10 Ways to Beat the Afternoon Slump.
1. Call a Friend.
When I am tired, I call a friend from home or I call my parents (they live 6 hours away) to catch up. Talking to someone and changing what you’re thinking about (work, housework, etc…) is always an easy way to get some energy back.
2. Grab a drink.
We like Function drinks – they are organic, so we always keep a variety of them at our house, to grab anytime we’re feeling tired or just need a pick-me-up that tastes good. It is powered by plant-based ingredients, certified organic – it’s much better than what you find in conventional energy drinks, so I am all for it. To be honest, I dislike most energy drinks, but this one is SO good! My I like the Tropical Citrus.
Becky likes the Strawberry Lime. Function Organic Energy drinks uses guarana, yerba mate, coffee berry, and green tea to give long-lasting energy without the crash. The blend is totally unique from other energy drinks and really works to give you that extra boost of energy. All of the different fruit flavors are so refreshing, so you can’t go wrong with whatever flavor you pick.
They also make an Organic Detox drink that has prickly pear, turmeric, and ginger to help you recover and reduce feelings of dehydration after activity.
It’s the perfect way to get rid of the “blahs!”. I take when I’m heading out to go to the gym, too.
It’s a great recovery beverage, too, so I like to drink it after a workout, which brings me to number 3…
3. Work Out.
As tired as I may be, if I hit the gym, I just feel more energized. A 45-minute workout gives me energy that will last for hours.
4. Put on your favorite song.
If you feel tired or sleepy, grab your phone, put on your favorite Pandora station and listen to some of your favorite songs. You’ll love the new energy you feel.
5. Change it up.
When I feel tired, it’s usually because I’m bored or frustrated with what I’m doing. If I can do something else or run an errand, it usually gets me out of that afternoon slump and I feel re-energized.
6. Go for a drive.
Like I said in #5, I like to run errands if I’m tired. I like to surprise the kids with a little treat every few weeks when I pick them up from school, so I’ll run and get them something and have it in the car when they get in after school.
7. Take a walk outside.
Fresh air will make anyone feel energized and awake. Pay attention to your surroundings and allow yourself to just take it all in.
8. Make ice out of your Function drinks & eat it.
Eating something cold always wakes me up, so I like to combine the two ways to get energy… freeze my Function Organic Energy drink and use it as ice in another cup (filled with Function Organic Energy.)
9. Go outside.
Melatonin isn’t produced in bright light, so head out into the sunlight for 20 minutes. Take your favorite book!
10. When all else fails, give in & take a 10-minute cat-nap! 🙂
I hope that helped you to beat the afternoon fatigue that seems to get all of us at one point or another! Go grab a Function drink, a good book & head out into the sunlight for a quick pick-me-up… or just a little excuse to have ten minutes of downtime. 🙂
