Walt Disney World is the kind of place where you just want to go and have fun and not worry about the expenses. It’s hard to ignore the prices, but we try for the sake of fun. However, there are something you don’t want to spend money on when it comes to a Disney vacation. I’m not talking about things like Disney costumes for kids, but things you don’t want to buy at the park itself. You can save money when you don’t buy these items at Disney World.
Don’t Buy These Items at Disney World
Ponchos
It is so so so easy to buy disposable ponchos before you go on your trip. Amazon has 5 packs of plastic disposable ponchos for the price of one poncho at Walt Disney World. It’s always a good idea to be prepared for rain. Don’t get caught unprepared and have to pay extra cash to stay dry in the Magic Kingdom!
Bottled Water
This one drives me crazy. I can’t believe we are expected to pay so much for a bottle of Dasani water at the Disney World parks and resorts…. especially when the Florida heat often demands you to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. It’s so easy to bring your own water and to keep it in the mini-fridge in your room.
Keep some bottles in an insulated lunch box packed with ice for when you go into theme parks. You are allowed to do this and it can save you about $20. It’s a good idea for somebody in your party to wear a backpack for carrying things like beverages and snacks as well as light jackets or sweaters, flip flops, (ponchos) etc.
Sunscreen
Okay. If you forgot to bring sunscreen, please, by all means, pay the $20 or $30 dollars to make sure you protect yourself from the harmful effects of ultraviolet light. You do not want to get sunburned during your magical Disney vacation. Just try not to forget to bring your own.
Sunscreen and other convenience items are hugely overpriced at the hotels, so check, double check, and then triple-check your packing list to make sure you have all important convenience and emergency items accounted for before you leave home.
Non-Exclusive Merchandise
The main reason to buy a souvenir is as a reminder of the place you’ve been. Unfortunately, so many things at Disney World can be easily purchased off of ShopDisney.com or even at Target!
Don’t buy these items at Disney World! When you’re looking for a neat memento, first verify that the souvenir you’re looking at is something you can only buy in the park. You should also be tentative about collectible items since these almost always depreciate in value as soon as you take them out of the park.
Souvenir Cups
You may love souvenir cups. There might be cupboards full of them at home and it’s your favorite thing. You never regret buying them and they add joy to your heart daily. That may be… but it’s not my experience. For me, souvenir cups are very impractical.
They don’t have much place at home and when you buy them in the park, you’re stuck walking around with them all day. Most souvenirs you can have sent to your hotel, but these monstrosities are honestly just a reason for your drink to cost more.
