We hadn’t thought about this easiest cake recipe recipe in a while, but last week the boys wanted to invent a recipe. It started because Becky recorded on a new show for us to watch, as a family: Kids Baking Championship. We watch it every week and cheer for our favorite bakers (we each have someone that we think should be the winner). The show is simple- about 10 kids gather in a kitchen and two hosts tell them to make a recipe (a cake, or cookies… whatever it is that week) and then they usually throw in some twist or surprise ingredient, like chili powder. The kids bake and then the judges pick one person to leave the competition and one person to be the winner for the day. At the end of the season, there will be one child left.
Anyway- Jack, Beau and Ethan decided to have a bake-off. They each made their own cake (well, they helped Becky make the cake), then they decorated them and put them on a plate to serve to their judges (the rest of us). Allie wanted to play, but she ate the icing off of her cupcake before the judges had a chance to look, so she was disqualified and became a judge (happy to sample the other cakes!)
The next day, they wanted to do it, again (yes, again…) so we changed it up and this time Becky and I had a bake off. This was my recipe (and I’m happy to say that I was the winner!) I actually can’t take ALL of the credit, since it was Becky’s recipe to begin with…
I made a video to go with it, so I could share it with you because it is the easiest cake ever and your family will think that you are the best baker.
You just need:
2 -cans of pie filling
1 – box of yellow cake mix
1 – stick butter. (We like fresh fruit with ours, too)
Put the pie filling into the bottom of a dish.
Pour the cake mix over your pie filling
Place pats of butter on top (I use 1 stick of really cold or frozen butter & cut it).
Bake at 350 for 40 minutes (until it is bubbly).
Let it cool enough to eat & dig in!
