How to do it all…
Every day is an adventure… and we can take it as it comes. Between four kids and all of the coaching that I’m doing to help (as a way to spend extra time with the kids), we’re always headed somewhere. Toss the bats, lacrosse sticks, soccer equipment in the bed of my truck, help the kids into their car seats & we’re off! We can ride the hills and valleys on the roads and in life, and we can learn from them, and in turn teach our kids to do the same This weekend was no different: dance, football, baseball, and a weekend trip. When we got home for our adventures, someone asked me “How on earth do you do it all?”
With four kids, I didn’t have to think twice before I knew the answer. Today I want to share that answer with you.
How do you do it all?
1. Don’t.
I think that when we expect to “do it all,” we are setting ourselves up for failure. As a dad of four young kids, I quickly learned that I can’t do everything for everyone, so I only do what is important.
Example: I spend time with our kids and my wife because they are important to me. Those relationships are important and need to be treated as so.
2. Be Flexible.
Just like I can’t do it all… I also have had to learn that if you aren’t flexible, nothing will go as planned. Even our Maxi-Cosi Magellan 5-in-1 Convertible Car Seat works with our lives in that way! It carried babies home from the hospital and still works to take those same babies to baseball and dance practice! It’s awesome to have a car seat that converts as our kids grow. Just like kids themselves—always changing, and we, as parents change with them. We are always learning what works best and then changing so we can do just that. One day soccer… next day dance. One day wrestling… next day baseball. So we go… and enjoy every minute of it.
Over the past 30 years Maxi-Cosi car seats have carried over 50 million babies home from the hospital, so we aren’t alone in that one! The Maxi-Cosi Magellan is an innovative new 5-in-1 convertible car seat that accommodates children from birth to age 10 (5lbs. to 120lbs.). I like knowing that it will keep them safe: it’s the only convertible car seat equipped with Maxi-Cosi’s patented Adjustable Side Impact Protection, which creates a customized fit for all growth stages and ensures maximum protection in the proper position.
3. Be there.
I have always known that I wanted to be involved with our family. I coach football, wrestling, and baseball so I can be with our sons. I take our daughter to her dance lessons so I can stay involved there. I just want our kids to know that what they think is important, is also important to me. Luckily, the Maxi-Cosi Magellan is an innovative new 5-in-1 convertible car seat is ready to change for whichever child I have in the car since it transitions in five ways: Baby Rear-Facing, Toddler Rear-Facing, Toddler Forward-Facing, Child Forward-Facing and Belt Positioning Booster.
4. What they need… not what they want.
While I want our kids to have fun and I want to be involved, the main way that I “do it all” is that I do what needs to be done to keep them safe and give them what they need. Yes, I want to be fun and do those things, but it’s more important to do what they NEED.
Do they want to read for 20 minutes a day? No, they often sigh, but Becky reminds them that it is important.
Do they want to practice their sports every day? No, but I remind them that they need to stay in shape.
When these things are done often, it becomes a habit, just like buckling up, brushing your teeth, etc….
5. Say No to Say Yes.
Sometimes, we have to say NO to some things in order to say YES to the important things. Learn what is important and what is not, so you can say no enough times to be able to have the time to say Yes to the things that really matter.
