If I had to tell you about my favorite gift from our kids, it would probably be a pair of camo gardening gloves (that are 2 sizes too big) from our sons, because one day I said that my hands were cold while we were driving. (note: gardening gloves do not keep your hands warm, but don’t tell our kids.)
I’ve kept those gloves for four years now. Becky said that they used a dollar from our oldest son’s piggy bank to go to the Dollar Store and buy it. They knew just what they wanted and they picked it out themselves. They spent their own money on it, which is a big deal. I’ll use those gloves for as long as they last.
Yes, they are too big and yes they are unsightly (and truth be told… they don’t keep my hands warm in the slightest), but they are my favorite pair and the only ones that I wear.
Over the years, I’ve had many more gifts come my way, but none that mattered quite as much as those gloves.
I love what Becky and I do for gifts like this. We don’t really buy each other extravegant gifts, instead we look for what what that person really wants and needs. We are not wasteful people (we try not to be, anyway), so buying cologne or a t-shirt that I might not wear isn’t something that Becky would spend money on.
This year, she actually gave me my gift a little early, because we are having company visit us from PA and she knew that I would want to use it. She bought me the Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill.
When I saw that the new Sausage Grill cooked Johnsonville Sausage perfectly every time (with a push of one button), it went onto my list of things that I wanted to buy. We make sausage at least once a week (I have several recipes on here) and this cooks it in 15 minutes.
Now, Becky isn’t much of a camper, but when she gave it to me, she attached a little card that said “You have to know that I love you, because this grill says that it is perfect for camping because you can store it or take it with you… which means that I guess we will be camping in our future.” Of course when I read it, the kids’ faces lit up!
Ps- It can be used indoor or outdoor – I put mine on our back porch.
Johnsonville believes in bringing the family together around the dinner table, but the meal doesn’t have to be complicated. That’s exactly what we think, too.
This year, for Father’s Day, give Dad something that he will use, because he wants to use it… and give him something that he use because he loves the people that he got it from. I can’t wait to see what June 19th holds for me from the kids!
