Football Season has arrived! Every Year Becky and I have some close friends and family over to watch football and this year is no different. Today I’m going to share some games & ideas that I have for game day fun! Football is in my blood. I’ve been playing since I was a kid: elementary school, middle school, high school, college and now I coach our son’s team. It’s who we are as a family. The kids love to paint their faces before games and head outside to play in the backyard before they come in for dinner & the game.
Watching the game with my family has quickly become a family tradition. On the same note, meal time is important for our family (eating together), so why not combine the two: we have football dinner nights where we eat while we watch the game (or even my old football tapes- the kids love that!)
When we know it’s going to be a game night at our house, we plan a great meal and I’ll pick up Dr Pepper® for our family. It’s one of a kind flavor that our family loves. Becky’s parents & her brother’s family live close by, so with six adults, we can drink a case of Dr Pepper in no time, especially during an exciting game. It’s no wonder that it’s the official drink of college football fans with its rich, indulgent flavor that’s been part of college football for over 25 years. We picked up the 12 oz. 12 pack cans of Dr Pepper. We loved the seasonal football cans.
It’s my favorite…
Since the kids get a special treat on these nights, they think it’s just about the best thing ever! While they are playing, I am usually grilling.
I use Kingsford® Charcoal with Hickory. I also really like Kingsford Charcoal with Applewood for grilling. Kingsford Charcoal is made in the USA with North American ingredients and has 100% natural ingredients. I like that it’s easy to light & maintains consistent flavor, so everything tastes great, every time.
We set the table with a full football theme…
Football is something that I am pretty passionate about and wanted it to be something that the kids and I can have fun doing together. One of my goals over the years was to try and teach my kids more about football. This year they had a great time cheering on their teams. (It was usually the team opposite I was pulling for…but that’s what makes it fun.)
Before any games, we stock up on our favorite foods. Walmart certainly makes it all easier. Without a doubt. We shop at Walmart anytime that we need anything. We love their Online Grocery Pickup (with four kids- pulling up and having the groceries ready to go is a huge time saver). We use it at least once a week, usually more. The prices are always right and Walmart has everything we need. Becky started using it right when it came out and we have never looked back.
The only time that we have to run into any store is if we forget something while the car is being loaded with the things that we remembered. (This is a normal occurrence, too) Check out our stack of groceries below… that’s actually how many we had. I asked the person helping and she said that one time she loaded 24 crates full of food into someone’s car. hahaha! That made us feel better since we have about 10-12 crates full each week.
Usually, during halftime, we would play a little Pin-the-Football on the Quarterback. It is a bit of a spin-off of Pin-the-Tale on the Donkey. The kids and I would decorate a new player each week. Usually the colors of the team we were pulling for that week. You can get your FREE PRINTABLE HERE and make one with the kids to celebrate the big game. Here are some pictures of the one we made this week 🙂
Don’t forget that snack that you’ll have after dinner! Becky loves to bake with the kids, so we grabbed these printable cupcake toppers that she made (you can print them here) and she baked cupcakes with the kids. After they iced the cupcakes, we let the kids cut out the Cupcake Toppers and we put them into the cupcakes.
To balance those cupcakes, we also cut up some vegetables and made a veggie tray. We added Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® dressing to our Walmart Online Grocery Pickup order. It’s our favorite because it tastes great. Not only is it gluten free, but it also doesn’t have any artificial preservatives, flavors or colors.
All in all, once we make the plans for the game, pick up our online order at Walmart and head home, we’re in for some fun! I can count on Walmart Online Grocery Pickup to make life much easier & less stressful, so I can spend time on the things that I really love… like family (and football!). We love to watch football games with our family and friends, play games and enjoy the food and drinks together. The more time that we can spend together, having fun, the better.
