Every year, Becky and I try to teach our kids about “local heroes”. We want them to know that not everyone gets to have a great Thanksgiving meal like us, or a wonderful Christmas filled with joy. With our help… they can. Today, I partnered with La Brea Bakery to highlight our own Thanksgiving Hero and to encourage you to nominate your own hero, too.
Our Thanksgiving Hero would be someone willing to help others. Someone who works on Thanksgiving, serving others. My in-laws are the perfect candidate for this. They volunteer weekly at our local soup kitchen, serving others without asking for anything in return. Every year, on Thanksgiving, they go to our local soup kitchen and serve a hot Thanksgiving meal to those that are less-fortunate.
It is times like this that we want to be sure that our kids are paying attention. We often stop by the Soup Kitchen to say hello. Our kids are very young and it is too hard to have them serve the food right now, but we are prepping them to help by introducing them to the soup kitchen and the reason that we serve.
For this reason, our family celebrates Thanksgiving on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We gather our family from Pennsylvania to North Carolina to Florida and we all meet to have a Thanksgiving weekend.
La Brea Bakery is the leading artisan bread in the United States, and is sold in 7,000-7,500 accounts (retail outlets and chains) nationwide. Learn more about La Brea Bakery HERE.
