It’s more than just a yard. Our backyard has always been a place for the kids to enjoy and to have fun.
Over the years it has changed so much. I found this picture below of our boys. Before you ask, it wasn’t taken on Halloween. This was a daily adventure in our house.
I miss the days when boys would dress up in super hero costumes. They would chase each other around for hours. The backyard was whatever they imagined it to be. They would pretend the old swingset was a fort and it protected them from invaders below. Today, they still love the yard, but try getting your teenager to put on a Wolverine costume now!
Just as the seasons change, so has our back yard. The one thing that has remained the same. It has always been a place for our kids and all the neighbors to come and play. It was the place where we trained our dogs.
We always wanted to have a place where everyone wanted to hang out. However, the back yard and the toys, especially the swing set and playhouse, were starting to show their age. So Becky and I decided to do a total backyard renovation. We wanted to do something that ALL of us could enjoy. Here are some before pictures.
Now that the boys were older and they now had a little sister (Allie), we had to come up with a backyard plan that everyone was going to love.
So we come up with this plan. We added a heavy-duty swing set that all of our kids and the neighbors could enjoy.
We built this adorable little playhouse for our daughter Allie. Now all the kids love to play in it.
Now that we had the kids taken care of it was time to focus on what I wanted out of the back yard. I wanted to add some plants and shrubs that would add privacy and look nice. I also wanted to make sure they were low maintenance and native to our environment here in North Carolina.
The last thing on my list was to get the grass in the backyard to look more like my front yard. Lush and green.
Over the past 10 years, so much has changed. Everyone in the family has contributed to some part in making the yard something they love. We love the stage of life that we are in.
We love spending time playing out in the yard and making memories.
